COVID-19: Paying energy bills in a time of uncertainty

We want to reach out to business owners, energy managers, directors or finance teams to ensure you have the right support and advice in dealing with energy issues and paying energy bills during these uncertain times.

We know you may be worrying about the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on your energy supply and utility invoices. We have provided some general advice below of how you can keep on top of your paying energy bills.

On 20th March, the Government launched an emergency package with energy suppliers, to help struggling homes and businesses across the UK.

If you are one of these people or businesses that are struggling with money problems or are repaying a debt, options will include:

  • Reviewing bill payment plans, including debt repayment plans
  • Payment breaks or reductions in how much you pay
  • Giving you greater time to pay
  • In some cases access to hardship funds

Energy suppliers are also asking customers, whether a household or a business, to follow the below:

  • DO NOT cancel your direct debits unless otherwise agreed
  • Submit regular meter reads to us on 15th and 30th of each month
  • Shut or power down equipment and appliances not currently using
    electricity, gas or water
  • Seek assistance from your local authority for access to Government Grants and Business Interruption loan schemes. Criteria and thresholds apply. Please contact your local authority for more information on this.

Regular meter reads will ensure that your energy bills are not overestimated by suppliers and if your site is closed, you should only pay for standing charges (if applicable), as no energy should be consumed.

If you or your business believe you may have difficulty paying energy bills, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team:
